How do you want to die?
1 min read
This isn’t a line from an Arnold Schwarzenneger movie, but it really should be.
We’re guessing you haven’t done this before, but take a moment to think about your death.
- Where are you? A hospital? Home?
- Who’s with you? Family? Friends?
- When is this happening? Old age? Middle age?
This isn’t fun1 by any means, but let’s go one step deeper.
- If you have a terminal diagnosis (~6 months to live):
- Would you want to do everything possible to prolong your life?
- Or would you rather just let the disease take its course and be comfortable?
- Or something in the middle?
- If you fall into a coma or something similar, the same questions apply.
- Would you rather go gentle into that good night?
- Or are you a fighter? And, if you choose to fight, how long would you want that fight to last? As long as possible? A year?
- What should happen to your body if you die?
- Are you an organ donor?
- Burial or cremation? Or donate your body to science?

Unless you’re my Dad, who insists that he’s going to take on last tube ride with his buddies on the Frio River.
“Just keep passing bottles of Crown (Royal) down to us at each road crossing,” he always reminds us. ↩︎
